도시농업 정의

Urban agriculture is a compound word of 'urban + agriculture'.
A city represents a space called a city, which is the same as or similar to the concept of a ville or town, and is defined as an area that is demographically larger or more than a certain size or population density.
Since not only the population but also various socioeconomic characteristics appear in the city, the definition of the spatial concept of the city is also diverse.
In Korea, there is a ‘Si’ with the same concept as a city. An area with more than 50,000 people is defined as a ‘Si’. In addition, the area with the proportion of people engaged in secondary and tertiary industry is more than 40%, and with a population of more than 20,000 is defined as ‘Eup’.
Agriculture is systematically categorized according to its similarity in industrial activities mainly performed by production units based on the Korea Standard Industry Code (KSIC).
① Occupation of farming,
② Organic production that uses land to grow useful plants or feed useful animals,
③ Labor process
From the above three aspects, agriculture is a human activity related to the regular and repetitive use of a certain land surface, and its purpose is to acquire plant and animal products.
Therefore, etymologically, it can be said to be an organic production business in which urban residents cultivate useful plants or feed useful animals using land in a space called a city.
In various literature, urban agriculture is defined as "agriculture in which urban residents seek productive leisure activities and healthy life through farming activities in urban spaces."
Urban agriculture with a wider definition can be said to be "improving the quality of life of farmers and urban residents through exchanges between urban and rural areas, inheriting and developing traditional culture.“
Agricultural products produced by forming communities with families and neighbors in urban agriculture are used for self-sufficiency, and urban agriculture is a non-business activity in that it shares the produced agricultural products with close neighbors.
In this respect, urban agriculture needs to be distinguished from rural agriculture.
We intend to contribute to the development of urban and rural areas together by creating a nature-friendly urban environment and enhancing urban residents' understanding of agriculture by legally preparing “the Act on the Promotion and Support of Urban Agriculture”(Enforcement 2013.03.23.)
The definition of urban agriculture used in this Act is as follows.
Urban agriculture is the act of farming or cultivating crops using land, buildings, or various living spaces in urban areas. In addition, urban agriculture refers to the farming or cultivation of crops for hobbies, leisure, learning, or experience using land, buildings, or various living spaces in urban areas.
